Human Papillomavirus Vaccine

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Update: The FDA recently approved the use of a new vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is the most commonly sexually transmitted disease in the United States and is responsible for most forms of cervical cancer, and less commonly, vaginal and vulvar cancers in women. While 70-90% of sexually active women may become infected with the virus at some point in her life, only a small percentage of women will actually develop cervical cancer from their infection.
