Clinic Sofia currently provides several gynecological surgical procedures to accommodate your healthcare needs. Many of these are minimally invasive procedures, which means that they often cause less pain and scarring with a quicker recovery.
Laparoscopy
A laparoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure done in the hospital. Laparoscopic incisions are very small, usually a few milimeters in length. There may be many scenarios in which your caregiver will perform a laparoscopy. If you need a laparoscopy, your provider will use small tools to remove cysts, scar tissue, endometriosis, or other problems. It may also help your caregiver diagnose infertility by checking your fallopian tubes. A laparoscopy is done under general anesthesia at the hospital.
Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy is a safe way to look inside the uterus without any incisions to detect problems such as fibroids, polyps, or the cause of miscarriages. Your caregiver will insert a thin tube with a light on the end into the vagina. Women with abnormal bleeding may have this procedure to find the cause, but hysteroscopy may be used in other situations such as multiple miscarriages or sterilization. This procedure is performed in the office or the hospital, depending on your medical history and needs.
LEEP Procedure
The LEEP procedure involves using a small wire loop connected to cautery, to remove a small portion of the cervix that contains abnormal cells. If left untreated, these abnormal cells could progress into cancer of the cervix. LEEP procedures are usually performed in the Clinic Sofia office.
Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery uses liquid nitrogen to briefly freeze abnormal cells on the cervix. This procedure may also be used safely for other abnormal cell growths in the body. Clinic Sofia performs cryosurgery in the office.
Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial ablation is the removal of the tissue lining the uterus using heat. The uterus itself will remain intact. It will prevent further blood loss by decreasing period flow or stopping future menstrual periods. Ablation is best suited for post-menopausal women who suffer from heavy bleeding. Endometrial ablation is typically performed in the hospital.
Hysterectomy
Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus. The fallopian tubes and ovaries may or may not be removed as well, depending on your needs. Each woman has unique needs, which affects which type of hysterectomy she may choose. This decision is always made between the patient and her caregiver. If you need a hysterectomy, Clinic Sofia provides vaginal, abdominal, and minimally invasive approaches. Clinic Sofia is proud to perform minimally invasive hysterectomy using the da Vinci robot, which offers 3D high-definition vision and function.
